Diptera
This order consists of true flies and mosquitoes. The word 'diptera' roughly translates to 'two wings', and so insects of this family only use a pair of wings, while the size of the other pair is reduced and used for balance. They also have a large movable head and eyes that are compound and large. Flies and mosquitoes also have mouthparts that are adapted for liquid diets and along with a thorax, a mesothorax that is enlarged. They also have a cycle of complete metamorphosis.
