Siphonaptera
This order consists of fleas. They mostly live close to their host, a cat, dog or rat, often directly on their fur or feathers or in their nest. They have compressed bodies and mouthparts that can pierce and suck, along with large hind legs that are adapted for jumping. They have gripping claws to help them cling to their hosts and backward-pointing hairs and bristles for easy movement in hair and fur. Small antennae are found at the top of the head and can be tucked into a special groove for easy movement.
